It is to "see" God through our biases and preferences. But when we do so, we rarely see God for who he is. I know that the God I pursue can often be a God of my own making, my own golden calf that I declare to be the god who delivered me. When my heart is pure, then I'm blessed, for it is then that I truly see God.
Lord, create in me a clean heart that I may see you.
To see God is not just the desire of the 'really spiritual' striving away at some lonely place in monastic zeal. To see God is not a fanciful longing that will never go fulfilled either. To see God is simply our salvation. To see Christ, to see God in Christ, is to receive the blessing of a pure in heart. Which means that purity in heart is now made possible for those who are in Christ. This is the amazing gift of Christ. Now, do I appreciate the enormity of this gift?
