Saturday, July 13 - Scripture Meditation

Matthew 5:17-18

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."

  1. The challenge is to accept the "whole counsel of God" and not dismiss sections of the Law and the Prophets as "outdated" or even "superceded." Certainly, our 'interpretative standpoint' is different -- in that Christ has 'fulfilled' them -- but real obedience comes in those places where you find yourself struggling... God, may I never give up the struggle!

  2. Lord, you are the embodiment and fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets. Help me to see you in the Law and the Prophets and help me to rest in the truth that your righteousness covers my inability to live up to God's standards.
