Tuesday, July 16 -- Scripture Meditation

Matthew 5:21-22

Matt. 5:21   “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

  2. There is accountability for our emotions as well as accountability for words spoken in the heat of our emotions. In a culture obsessed with "being true to yourself" and "authenticity", it's easy to forget, and even justify, our emotional meltdowns. But God does not excuse away our emotional outbursts; he holds us accountable. Lord, may your Spirit remind me that I will give account for every word I utter, even those words uttered in the heat of an emotional outburst.
