Thursday, July 4 - Scripture Meditation

Matthew 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.

  1. Obvious question: do I hunger and thirst for righteousness? Do I really long so desperately for God's righteousness in my life, that it is food and water to me?

How satisfied would my life be if I learned to long for the right things?

  2. This verse reminds me that God's righteousness (and justice) will one day prevail (...for they will be filled). The cross guarantees it. If I hunger for it, I will be satisfied and blessed on that day. I love the imagery of hungering and being thirsty. The greater the hunger, the greater the satisfaction when your hunger is satiated. Lord make me hungry... grow my hunger for righteousness... let that hunger cause me to be dissatisfied with the passing, trivial things of life so that I may be satisfied only by you and your righteousness.

    Happy 4th of July.
