Tuesday, July 9 - Scripture Meditation

Matthew 5:10

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

  1. I cannot remember when - if - I was ever truly persecuted because of righteousness. I know many times when I thought I was being persecuted, but in hindsight it was something far less egregious than persecution.

But even in those 'mini-persecution' moments are too far and few in between, and much too avoided.

God, may I know this blessing.

  2. Living in a pluralistic society, where "tolerance" is an inviolable virtue, persecution for one's faith and belief is rare. Just as long as it doesn't hurt anyone seems to be the lowest common criteria for acceptable behavior. Ridiculed for our beliefs - yes; persecuted - rarely. Other than feeling a bit guilty, I struggle discerning what the Spirit is saying to me through this verse...
